This delicate encounter reminded me of my previous thoughts this week about our connection to all those around us....
Each one of us is connected to everyone and everything by these invisible, yet tangible threads. We feel a connection to those around us, whether we like it or not. That feeling you get in the heart when you see a homeless family asking for work, or a baby staring at you from the shoulder of a mother standing in line. Our joys and sufferings are shared in many ways. A thought, prayer, intention, song, has the power to touch lives and we are capable of feeling this energy , just as a breeze subtly brushes by your face. No matter how thick or thin these threads of connection are, you can't deny them. Society will distract us with t.v, commercialism and fear, antidepressants and other sensory inhibitors. Distracting us from the presence we can feel in every moment of every day. Is your clock just ticking away the moments that make up a dull day? (Cue the Pink Floyd lyrics)
But are these subtle threads of connection really invisible? To the untrained eye, yes, but to the trained heart- no. If we allow ourselves to be open to receive and give honest emotions and responses, to feel and experience everything in the present moment as it is happening, if we tune into our breath as a sacred sign that each one of us are divine beings- then these invisible threads between us human beings, and plants and animals becomes much more apparent.
What if we lived so transparently that when others encountered us, the only thing they felt was a feeling directly derived from the heart. Love, joy, understanding, empathy, forgiveness, peace, patience. These delicate , precious, threads connecting us to one another weave an intricate, beautiful, colorful tapestry of life. All we need is the courage to wear our heart on our sleeve, close our eyes, and feel more deeply into the precious life that vibrates all around us. Can you allow yourself to be vulnerable enough to feel the subtleness of one another's connection? Will you allow someone else's caring thoughts to penetrate and heal you from the inside out? Can you trust the universe enough to send out a gift and let it travel to where it needs to go?
